As the objects we surround ourselves with and become embedded with artificial intelligence, they start to take on an awareness that directs a new aesthetic. The slick surfaces that have come to define personal electronics are replaced with more meaningful materials with tactility and character. The current state of political and economic flux is also fueling this shift in aesthetics as we seek alternatives to the convention and put our trust in earthy minerals, spiritual color, and mystical materials.
Futuristic fashion for 2017/2018 is being described by trend analysts as “post-human”, which is inspired by artificial intelligence and illustrated by tech-driven design and a new generation of technical materials that are made from robust threads and metallic filaments. Properties of post-human apparel are ultralight, highly breathable, protective, and thermoregulating (capable of regulating your body’s temperature), while futuristic fashion is defined by otherworldly aspects like embossed textures, bespoke fabrics, liquid or metallic finishes, and glowing LED lights inside of mesh materials. These silhouettes are then projected as ‘host’ systems on the human body, each design moves, breathes, and reacts to the environment around them. The Silhouettes are structured with leather and metal bustiers, pleated skirts, asymmetrical hems, metallic hues, and wide shoulders this season. Each fabric has a structured Avant-garde look that flows with the movement of the body, gives it a calm femininity, and has clean modernism. Also, the shared detailing that ties all these looks together are futuristic but seductive, which creates a classically feminine piece.
